Inside the creative heartbeat of Kansas City, something powerful unfolded when sneakers met studio floors and student-athletes stepped into a new arena—one where their voices mattered just as much as their performance on the court.
When Coach Andre Chatmon and two members of his KIPP Legacy Boys Basketball Team walked into The Jegna Klub Headquarters it wasn’t just another team outing—it was an experience rooted in growth, exposure, and transformation. Hosted by the youth-led platform JegnaTalk and amplified through JEGNAFEST Worldwide Radio and the Jegna Klub TV Network, the visit became a powerful intersection of sports, storytelling, and self-discovery.

Stepping Into the Unknown
For the players, the moment came with nerves—and honesty. “I was a lil nervous cause I never did anything like this,” admitted Qwanell Flag before the interview. That vulnerability quickly turned into confidence as the environment inside Jegna Klub proved to be something different. What began as uncertainty transformed into excitement, as players realized this wasn’t just an interview—it was a safe space. Cortez Chatmon echoed a similar feeling: “Lokey nervous and excited because this what I want to do.” That blend of nervous energy and aspiration is exactly what JegnaTalk is designed to capture—real youth voices navigating real growth in real time.
A Space Built on Realness
As the cameras rolled and the microphones turned on, something shifted. “It was great and I had a lot of fun. The realness in the atmosphere and how everyone was made me relax,” Qwanell shared after the experience. That word—"realness"—became a theme of the day. Inside the Jegna Klub Headquarters, the energy is intentional. It’s a place where young people are encouraged to be authentic, to speak freely, and to engage deeply—not just as athletes, but as thinkers, leaders, and storytellers.

Even in moments of fatigue—coming off a game the day before—the environment provided something the players didn’t realize they needed. “The laughs… I was tired from yesterday's game but I needed the laughs for sure,” Cortez said. Those moments of laughter, reflection, and connection—what everyone called “Pause moments”—became just as impactful as any highlight play on the court.

Youth Interviewing Youth: A Different Dynamic
At the center of the experience were the JegnaTalk interns—young leaders conducting the interviews themselves. Lead interviewer Payton entered the moment with calm confidence: “ I felt good because they seemed cool.” That instinct proved right, as the conversation flowed naturally. “We had some good laughs,” Payton reflected afterward, highlighting the organic connection that formed between interviewer and guest.
For co-host Delano, the experience carried both excitement and surprise. While he came in confident, one off camera moment stood out deeply: learning about Coach Chatmon’s personal journey, including surviving being shot seven times. That revelation added a layer of depth to the conversation—turning the interview from casual dialogue into a powerful story of resilience. “I was surprised to hear Coach Chatmon was once shot 7 times,” Delano shared. Moments like that are what define JegnaTalk—unfiltered, impactful conversations that go beyond surface-level questions.

A Coach’s Pride and Perspective
For Coach Andre Chatmon, the experience was about more than just media exposure—it was about growth. “I expected tough questions and got them,” he said, acknowledging the depth and preparation of the youth interns.

As he watched his players engage, his reaction was simple but powerful: “Proud.” That pride came not just from how they answered questions, but from how they carried themselves in an unfamiliar environment. Coach Chatmon also recognized the deeper value of the experience: “It made them realize you have to always be ready to ‘do something different.’” That lesson—adaptability—is one that extends far beyond basketball.
Beyond the Game: Building Life Skills
What happened inside Jegna Klub that day wasn’t just an interview—it was preparation for life. Jegna Klub Coach Keyz described the experience as “fulfilling,” noting the importance of preparation and teamwork behind the scenes. “We got the job done as always,” he said, reinforcing the organization’s commitment to excellence.
For the interns, the lessons were just as meaningful. “Practice more before the interview to be ready,” Delano noted, reflecting on growth and self-improvement. “Keep my head up,” Payton added—a simple but powerful takeaway about confidence and presence. These are the kinds of skills that don’t show up on a stat sheet—but shape futures.
One Word That Says It All
When asked to describe the experience, the responses were simple—but telling.
“REAL.”
“Great.”
“Calm.”
“Fulfilling.”
Each word paints a piece of the bigger picture.
A space where youth feel seen.
A platform where their voices matter.
An environment where growth happens naturally.
