Celebrating Excellence: Lyric Adair-Cole Named J.E.G.N.A. Klub Student of the Week

October 9, 2025 — The energy at Stoney Point North Elementary School was electric as students, staff, and community partners gathered to celebrate 5th grader Lyric Adair-Cole, this week’s recipient of the J.E.G.N.A. Klub Student of the Week Award. Surrounded by her classmates and family, Lyric’s recognition was more than a moment of applause — it was a powerful reminder of the impact young leaders can make when their effort, leadership, and spirit are seen and celebrated.

A Moment That Lit Up the Room

The presentation took place in Lyric’s classroom with over 30 students, staff, and community members in attendance. Award Coordinator Keyron “Keyz” Kimbrough opened the ceremony with a warm welcome, sharing the mission behind the Student of the Week Award — honoring young people who embody the values of Justice, Empowerment, Growth, Nurturing, and Advocacy.

When Lyric’s name was announced, the room erupted in cheers. “The award itself is amazing and made her light up when she saw it,” said nominating teacher Shannon Callahan. “It showed the students that people really do care about them and want to see them succeed.”

Why Lyric Stands Out

Lyric’s nomination came from Ms. Callahan, who described her as “a remarkable student and a natural leader.” Over the last five weeks at StarBase in KCK, Lyric has shown tremendous energy, curiosity, and joy for learning.

“Every day, she walks in prepared, focused, and ready to give her absolute best,” Ms. Callahan shared during the ceremony.

“She’s consistently engaged, always on task, and quick to step up and support her peers… Lyric leads with both heart and intelligence.”

Her commitment to learning isn’t just noticed — it’s felt by everyone around her. Assistant Principal Katie Kelly echoed that sentiment:

“Thank you all so much for coming to Stoney Point North to recognize Lyric! We appreciate your support for our students and for acknowledging the hard work that Lyric has accomplished and the bright future that she has!”

Community Support and Empowerment

One of the most meaningful aspects of this award is how it brings the whole school and community together. Judge Tony Martinez, who presented Lyric with her award, noted the joy that filled the classroom:

“Having the award in the classroom and taking pictures with the whole class was significant. It brought everyone in as part of the award. They were happy. This interactive presentation will push others to want to believe and achieve on their own behalf!”

Fellow community partners Jermaine Howard (Candidate for Wyandotte County KCK District 1 Commissioner) and Tamara Barnes agreed that the recognition builds confidence and awareness among youth. Howard reflected, “The reactions from peers stood out to me. Once Judge had everyone get in the picture, their spirits lifted.”

This shared joy transforms the award from a single recognition into a ripple effect of motivation throughout the classroom.

“This award is more than a celebration — it’s a launchpad for economic empowerment and financial literacy for both students and the adults who uplift them,” said Keyron Kimbrough during the presentation.

A Spark That Inspires Others

As Judge Martinez said,

“Our awardee was beaming. Her mother shared how her older daughter is in college — and that Lyric will follow the same path. They see us, they want and will be like us!”

Congratulations again to Lyric Adair-Cole, a bright light at Stoney Point North Elementary and a shining example of what leadership looks like in action.
