The Hustler That Changed The Game Comes to Jegna Klub Headquarters: Michael Watson & Myron Piggie Inspire the Next Generation

By Levi Lee

On a crisp winter day, January 31, 2026, the vibrant halls of The Jegna Klub Headquarters in Kansas City, Kansas, buzzed with excitement and purpose. Two figures walked through the doors carrying more than just books — they brought food, stories of resilience, transformation, and legacy. Michael Watson and Myron Piggie were on a mission: to promote Myron Piggie The Hustle(r) That Changed The Game, share the untold history of grassroots basketball, and uplift the next generation through dialogue with the JegnaTalk: For Youth By Youth interns — a dynamic group of young broadcasters shaping tomorrow’s voices.

The Jegna Klub isn’t just a space for media, it’s a youth-centered incubator where real-world learning meets creative expression. Through programs in broadcast production, entrepreneurship, digital media, financial literacy, and more, interns are given a stage and a voice to tell important stories and refine professional skills. With studios, live broadcast operations, and a global radio presence through JEGNAFEST Worldwide Radio, The Jegna Klub pushes students beyond the classroom into real experiences that build confidence and capability.

A Visit that Echoed Purpose and Passion

From the moment Watson and Piggie stepped onto the studio floor, there was an unmistakable energy in the air. Michael Watson — author, former basketball standout, UMKC all-time leading scorer, and Missouri Sports Hall of Famer — shared his excitement about being interviewed by the interns. “Excited to be interviewed by the crew, and learn more about the program,” Watson reflected, his words weaving gratitude with genuine intrigue.

Throughout the conversation, he radiated ease and admiration for the young hosts. “I felt good during the interview. Very relaxed. I thought the students were excellent,” he noted afterward — a testament to the interns’ professionalism. For Watson, seeing the Klub’s headquarters and watching interns run the entire production was a highlight: “Seeing the classroom and studio, and watching the students actually run the show from all angles.” It was, in one phrase, an “incredible experience.”

Watson even took time beyond the interview to mentor the interns, sharing broadcasting techniques like segues and bridge words — tools that seasoned professionals use to make transitions smoother and interviews more powerful. These weren’t just broadcasting tips; they were life lessons in communication and storytelling.

Myron Piggie: From Streets to History Books

At the center of this impactful visit was Myron Piggie The Hustle(r) That Changed The Game — a story of passion, controversy, and enduring influence. Long before Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) became a headline in sports, Piggie was a pioneer who invested in young players and altered the course of AAU basketball history.

Piggie built one of the most influential grassroots teams in the country, guiding future NBA standouts like Earl Watson, Corey Maggette, Korleone Young, Mike Miller, JaRon and Kareem Rush. But his success wasn’t without consequence; Piggie became known as the “first casualty of NIL,” punished for actions that today’s system now rewards.

For many at The Jegna Klub, this truth was as compelling as it was educational. Interns, coaches, and hosts sat in awe as Piggie’s narrative unfolded — not merely as a recount of past events, but as a powerful lens on transformation, sacrifice, and the systemic shifts in sports economics.

Youth Voices at the Mic

The interview itself was a lab of learning and growth for the youth hosts. Payton Towers, co-interviewer and co-host, admitted he was “nervous because he went to jail,” a raw insight into the emotional stakes young journalists face. Yet, he left excited and reflective, noting it was “great” and surprised me when I learned he went to jail for paying kids to play basketball.”

Lead host Zahdai Watson talked about the teamwork involved, saying, “Working as a team” was his favorite part, and noted the experience gave him a deeper sense of patience — “a lesson” he’ll carry forward.

On the technical side, Delano Washington enjoyed the production roles: “I was chill doing my work,” he said, and shared that the experience taught him “how life works” — a lesson that expands far beyond media skills.

Coach Keyron Kimbrough highlighted how Piggie’s stories “really caught me off guard,” emphasizing the depth of real experiences shared that day. One thing that surprised him was “Myron was facing 150 years. Told the Judge I can’t do a 150 years and the Judge replied do your best.”

Legacy, Learning, and the Future

When Watson and Piggie left The Jegna Klub headquarters that afternoon, they didn’t just conclude an interview — they sparked inspiration. For The Jegna Klub interns, the visit was a real-world masterclass in storytelling, professionalism, and courage in the face of complex narratives.

As Michael Watson aptly summed up his experience: it was an “incredible experience” — one that echoed beyond the studio walls and into the hearts and minds of tomorrow’s voices. And for the youth of The Jegna Klub, this interview wasn’t just another show — it was a moment in their own unfolding stories of growth and purpose.
