A Story of Leadership, Integrity & Inspiration
On a warm afternoon at F.L. Schlagle High School, the air was filled with admiration and pride as senior scholar and leader Kimea Scott accepted the J.E.G.N.A. Klub Student of the Week Award. Originally scheduled for October 23 and postponed to October 31, 2025, the celebration carried even more emotional weight. As Award Coordinator Coach Keyz shared, “Kimea ended up crying because the moment was so touching.”

What the Award Represents
The J.E.G.N.A. Klub Student of the Week Award uplifts youth who embody the values of Justice, Empowerment, Growth, Nurturing, and Advocacy. Each week, one student—from Kindergarten through college—is recognized for exceptional performance in academics, leadership, behavior, attendance, and positive influence within their school community.
Why Kimea Stood Out
Nominated by Head Football Coach and Teacher Cernyn Macon, Kimea was described as “a student whose leadership, dedication, and school spirit truly embody the values of the J.E.G.N.A. Klub Student of the Week Award.” She is active in the National Honor Society, the Black Student Union, and the Debate Team, and serves as President of her Senior Board. Beyond campus, she is a mock trial champion and a summer law intern — all accomplishments that reflect her passion for justice and her dreams of becoming an attorney.
When award presenter The Honorable Judge Tony Martinez addressed the room, he affirmed:
“She is intelligent, kind, considerate and extremely respectful … she wants to be a lawyer and defend people’s rights!”

During her acceptance remarks, Kimea expressed, “I feel truly honored and motivated — this recognition shows that my hard work and commitment to others matter.” The room erupted in cheers, reflecting genuine admiration from her peers.
A Principal’s Perspective
For Principal Dr. Lazell Williams, one moment stood above the rest. He reflected on the powerful emotion in the room, sharing: “When Kimea said, ‘I love this school — nobody loves this school more than me,’ it moved everyone. Several tears were shed today. Recognizing students and making them feel like family is our daily goal, and this award helped us promote a true sense of belonging.”
Dr. Williams added that the opportunity is “extremely strong” in its ability to positively influence students and strengthen school pride and motivation.
A Moment That Resonated
Coach Macon echoed the sentiment, saying, “It was the tears of joy on her face … that moment showed us how recognition can validate a student’s journey and uplift the entire community.” With twelve students, staff, and family members present — along with eight engaged community partners — the presentation captured the unity, pride, and celebration that the Jegna Klub strives to foster.

What’s Next for Kimea
As part of her recognition, Kimea and her nominator, Coach Macon, received financial-literacy tools including a Stockpile Any-Stock Gift Card and the eBook From Teen to Millionaire: A Guide for Young Investors by Chris Dunlap of Nu Wall Street. She and two adult family members are also invited to the next Economic Independence Academy Workshop, a hands-on learning experience powered by Nu Wall Street, Eastside Innovation, and the Kansas City Kansas Schools Foundation for Excellence.
