At Grant Elementary School in Kansas City, Kansas, the morning announcements are more than just routine — they’re a moment of connection, inclusion, and leadership. And this week, the J.E.G.N.A. Klub Student of the Week Award honors the student behind that voice: Allison Dajui Simon. Allison’s bilingual delivery of daily announcements in Spanish and English has become a symbol of unity and courage at her school. Her Principal, Dr. Heather Calvert, who nominated her for the award, shared:
“She demonstrates courage, skill, and a commitment to inclusion. Her kindness, thoughtfulness, and genuine love of learning make her a role model and a shining representation of Grant Elementary’s school values.”

What the Award Stands For
The J.E.G.N.A. Klub Student of the Week Award celebrates students from Kindergarten through college who embody the values of Justice, Empowerment, Growth, Nurturing, and Advocacy. Each week, one student is recognized not just for academic excellence, but for being a positive force in their school community.
Coach Keyron “Keyz”, the program coordinator, explained:
“We honor those who should be honored. That’s critical if the goal is to continue the trend of having great students.”
A Moment to Remember
The award ceremony was held in Allison’s classroom, surrounded by cheering classmates and supportive staff. Judge Tony Martinez, who presented the award, noted how the atmosphere shifted as the students realized the importance of the moment:
“The students were shy at first, but they understood we were there for something very positive. One asked if I was a real judge, another asked if I’d come back so he could have a turn. That’s the power of visibility — seeing someone who looks like them and believes in them.”

As Allison opened her award box, her smile lit up the room. She later shared:
“I am happy to get the Award and my parents are very proud of me!”
Gifts That Empower
Allison received a thoughtful collection of gifts designed to support her journey toward economic independence:
• A gift card from Merc Co+op
• A J.E.G.N.A. Klub Student of the Week T-shirt
• A Stockpile “Any Stock” Gift Card
• An eBook: From Teen to Millionaire by Chris Dunlap of Nu Wall Street
These tools are more than rewards — they’re resources. Both Allison and Dr. Calvert are invited to attend monthly Economic Independence Academy workshops, where they’ll explore topics like investing, real estate, and financial literacy.
Tory Anderson, Foundation Development Supervisor at KCK Schools Foundation for Excellence, reflected:
“Watching the student be so proud to open the box and see the large award that was all hers — that was everything.”
Impact Beyond the Award
The ripple effect of Allison’s recognition was felt throughout the classroom. Her peers cheered, smiled, and some even asked how they could be nominated next. Alan Watson, Program Manager at the Foundation, observed:
“The real impact is happening in the students who watch. It ignites a fire in them to be the best version of themselves.”

Dr. Calvert added:
“Surprising our students with awards presented in front of their classmates has a lasting impact. Watching Allison’s classmates be proud of her for her everyday leadership was amazing.”
Jermaine Howard, candidate for WYCO KCK District 1 Commissioner, emphasized the importance of community presence:
“Seeing other positive adult figures outside of their teachers helps students feel empowered. Recognition is important — as long as we also teach them that self-validation comes first.”
