Celebrating Leadership: Pricilla Par Named JEGNA Klub Student of the Week

By Levi Lee

The Jegna Klub is proud to announce Pricilla Par from Claude Huyck Elementary School as this week’s Student of the Week Award recipient! This award, presented in collaboration with the KCK Schools Foundation for Excellence, honors students not just for academic or athletic excellence but for embodying values of leadership, advocacy, and community empowerment—the essence of a Jegna. The concept of “Jegna” originates from Ethiopian culture, referring to someone with the courage and dedication to advance their people and community.

What the J.E.G.N.A. Stands For

The award reflects the deeper meaning behind the acronym J.E.G.N.A.:

• Justice: Advocating for fairness and equity.

• Empowerment: Inspiring peers through actions and leadership.

• Growth: Fostering personal and academic development while helping others grow.

• Nurturing: Supporting others with empathy and responsibility.

• Advocacy: Leading by example to uplift peers and community.

This week, Pricilla Par exemplifies these qualities with distinction.

Teacher Nominations: Pricilla’s Journey to Excellence

Both Mason Reaser and Cole Kill (not pictured) nominated Pricilla individually for the award, and their glowing comments highlight her outstanding character.

“Pricilla is a standout student who consistently goes above and beyond both academically and behaviorally, serving as an exemplary role model for her peers. She approaches every task with dedication, always giving her best effort—whether it’s assisting friends, following expectations, or excelling in her academic work.”

“Her intellectual curiosity and bravery empower her to ask thought-provoking questions that often leave her teachers impressed. Pricilla’s commitment to excellence and her positive influence make her an invaluable member of the school community.”

A Moment to Remember: Judge Tony Martinez Presents the Award

The Honorable Judge Tony Martinez serves as this years presenter, bringing an inspiring presence to the award ceremony. Judge Martinez reflected on the significance of the moment:

“It was a fantastic experience with the student, her teachers, and classmates. Seeing Pricilla receive the award with her peers clapping loudly and smiling was a joyful moment. Many of the students were of color, and witnessing one of their own being recognized by a judge offered an empowering message: ‘If they see me, they want to be me.’”

Judge Martinez emphasized how essential these recognition opportunities are:

“This type of award is of the utmost importance. It shows students they can also excel, motivating them to be good students and just good kids. Pricilla’s pride today is well-earned, and there is nothing wrong with her feeling proud of how the community sees her.”
