Success Story: Delano Washington – Growth Through Connection and Creativity

Delano Washington joined the Connecting The Dottes Multimedia Internship Program at Jegna Klub during a time of personal challenge. Before entering the program, he struggled with behavioral issues and academic disengagement, often finding himself in trouble and falling behind in school. But through the program’s evidence-based approach—rooted in the Positive Youth Development (PYD) framework—Delano experienced a transformative journey.

The program’s emphasis on mentorship, positive adult relationships, character development, and real-world learning provided Delano with the structure and support he needed. He learned the value of being a better person and helping others, and he began exploring career paths through hands-on experiences in media production and entrepreneurship. One of his proudest moments came during 913 Day, a community celebration where he helped prepare and serve food—an experience that gave him a sense of purpose and pride.

Delano’s growth was evident in his improved behavior and school performance. He now arrives on time, completes his assignments, and maintains a positive attitude toward learning. He credits Jegna Klub with helping him “stay chill,” follow directions, and avoid the trouble that once held him back. When asked what he’d tell another young person considering the program, Delano simply said, “It’s a cool place with a lot of things for you to do—it keeps you busy.”
