Jegna Klub and truththereason.com are collaborating with Mayor Garners Office to help empower youths to become who and what they want. Each week we will recognize a Kindergarten through college student who is not only excelling academically, athletically (not required), behaviorally, and in attendance, but is also not afraid to stand up and out to take the lead in word and action; not only for their future, but for their school and their community!
This week our EGO (Empowerment Grows Opportunities) Jegna Klub Student of the Week is Ivy Ruffin, a 2nd grade student at Silver City Elementary School in the Kansas City Kansas School District. Ivy is an overcomer! She is one who pushes herself to achieve and reach her goals. When Ivy began at Silver City, she was quiet and kept to herself. However, I witness her timidness as being very admirable. Although she isn't always the first one to volunteer to do things or to answer questions in clas, she is slowly but surely coming out of her shell. This year, she is beginning to "see" herself the way we have always seen her at Silver City and that is one who is courageous, kind, loving, smart, and gentle. I believe that Ivy deserves this honor as she is unlocking to door to advocating for herself and who she is becoming. - Nominated by Principal Zaneta Boles
